HP Spec: System modes

HP’s Chemstation supports several modes of operation. Different modes tailor software interface to particular needs. Changing modes change system menus, layouts of graphs and tables, and turn certain features on and off. Modes do not affect how operations are done, but rather which operations are available.

Modes are switched from the Mode menu. Mode switching takes Chemstation through software re-initialization and may take short time. Mode switching should not jeopardize loaded or measured data, although system settings may be restored to default.

Standard mode is the default mode. Advanced mode is recommended for most spectral measurements.

Standard mode.

The most basic spectral operation mode, which allows to measure a reference (blank) and samples (spectrum). May be good for starters before switching to Advanced mode.

  • Does not use macros and therefore all extensions are disabled;
  • No time-based measurements;
  • Has minimal set of Export options;
  • Minimal information in the sample table;

Kinetics mode.

Basic mode for measurement of kinetics at fixed wavelengths.

  • Does not support measurement of spectra;
  • Speed benefit over Advanced mode is unknown;
  • Use of macros is unknown;

Advanced mode.

The most flexible operation mode that enables most features. Advanced mode allows to take fuller advantage of true spectrometer capabilities from behind limited Chemstation software.

  • Supports macros;
  • Supports time-based measurements through native Chemstation interface or through macros.
  • Provides extensive sample table;
  • Allows Excel (native) and text  (macro) export;
  • Supports matrix manipulation and export through macros.
  • etc.
